Netflix to test a new ‘add a home’ option to charge for password sharing
Netflix declare today that it will begin testing a new “add a home” devise to charge users who share their account with others in select countries. The test marks the streaming giant’s latest attend toward cracking down on password sharing. The test will prompt users to pay an additional fee if they use an account outside their household. Netflix will begin testing the feature in Argentina, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras next month.
In these test regions, each Netflix account will include one home where you can access Netflix on any of your devices. If you want to allow someone to use your Netflix account in an additional home, the company will ask you to pay a fee. You can add a home to your account by paying an extra 219 pesos in Argentina and $2.99 in the other test regions. Members on a Basic Netflix plan can add one extra home, Standard users can add up to two extra homes and Premium users can add up to three extra homes. Users in these test areas will have the option to control where their account is being used and remove homes from their account settings page.
“It’s great that our members love Netflix movies and TV shows so much they want to share them more broadly,” said Netflix’s director of product innovation, Chengyi Long, in a statement. “But today’s widespread account sharing between households undermines our long term ability to invest in and improve our service.”
Netflix says this test expands on a similar feature it launched in Chile, Costa Rica and Peru earlier this year called “add extra member.” As part of this test, subscribers are asked to pay extra if they are sharing the service with people outside their own household. The feature allows households to add up to two “sub accounts” for a fee that’s less than the cost of the full-priced Netflix service.
Netflix had said this solution doesn’t rely on location-based data, like GPS. Instead, it’s leveraging the same information it uses to provide its service today to its end users, including an IP address, device IDs and other information about devices signed into the Netflix account across the household. Through this method, Netflix can identify when there’s persistent sharing taking place outside a household.
The company announced during its first-quarter earnings call that it will expand tests that charge members a higher price if they’re engaged in account sharing with people outside their household. Netflix had clarified it will need to continue to iterate on the feature for roughly a year or so, to make sure it gets the balance right in terms of how much extra to charge subscribers who have shared their Netflix account with other users outside their own household.
Today, Netflix estimates there are around 100 million households globally sharing their user accounts, and over 30 million of those are in the U.S. and Canada alone. Netflix says that by asking members who are sharing their accounts to pay more, it hopes to strike the right balance between still permitting sharing to take place while also helping to bring in revenue from everyone who’s viewing and getting value from its service.
These tests aren’t the only way Netflix is planning to monetize its subscriber base, as the company also said it will introduce an ad-supported plan. Last week, Netflix announced that it’s partnering with Microsoft as its “global advertising technology and sales partner” to help the streaming service earn revenue through ads.

Sri Lanka to host Asia Cup 2022 in UAE
The Asian Cricket Council has confirmed that the Asia Cup will be held in the United Arab Emirates with Sri Lanka, the original hosts, retaining hosting rights.
The economic crisis in Sri Lanka has seen the Asia Cup moved out of the country although Sri Lanka will continue to retain the hosting rights. The tournament will now be held in UAE between August 27 and September 11.
"Every effort was made to host the Asia in Sri Lanka and the decision to shift the venue to the UAE was taken after much deliberation," Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Jay Shah said in a press release on Wednesday. "The UAE will be the new venue while Sri Lanka will continue to retain hosting rights."
"This edition of the Asia Cup is extremely important as it will help Asian nations prepare for the ICC World Cup, and I thank the SLC and the Emirates Cricket Board for their understanding and cooperation."
The ACC also expressed its solidarity with Sri Lanka Cricket in the release.
"The ACC is mindful of the passionate Sri Lankan fans, hence the final decision to change the venue has been very difficult, but has been one that was deemed necessary. However, the thoughts of all ACC members remain in solidarity with the cricket-loving nation of Sri Lanka."
The Asia Cup, which was last played in 2018, will be played in the T20 format, with nine teams participating. UAE, Kuwait, Singapore and Hong Kong will play a qualifying round with the winner joining India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh in the main tournament.
While Sri Lanka are hosting Pakistan currently and also successfully completed a series at home against Australia recently, the nine-team tournament poses a huge challenge in the current scenario. UAE has been a favoured backup country for hosting major tournaments, with India hosting the 2021 T20 World Cup in the country.

Truecaller is a famous app that shows you contact information of unknown numbers calling you. It crowd sources contact information from all its users' address books. So even if you've never used the service, your name and number could be on Truecaller's database, thanks to someone adjunct who's saved your contact details and permit the app to access them.
Not everyone knows this, but for some fixed-line phones, Truecaller even lists the address of the landline. This doesn't mean much when telemarketers or spammers call from an office address, but ideally you wouldn't desire strangers to know your home address just because you called them from your landline. Of course Truecaller sources this data from public data sources. This is because if someone knows your landline number, they can easily find the registered address via any publicly available phone book (many telcos have this information public) or even by simply finding for your landline number on Google.
For this reason, you should contentment removing your number from Truecaller's database. Note that you can't remove your number from the service if you are using the app. You'll have to deactivate your own account to get your number removed. Steps to disband your Truecaller account andoride

Open the app > tap the gear icon in the top right corner > About Truecaller > Scroll down > Deactivate Truecaller.
Windows Mobile
Open the app and tap the three dots in the bottom right corner > Settings > Help > Deactivate account.
Once you have deactivated your Truecaller account, you can proceed to removing your number from the service. Here's how.
How to remove your number from Truecaller
Go to the Truecaller unlist page.
Enter your phone number with the correct country code. For example: +911140404040 or +919999999999.
Tick one of the reasons for unlisting, or if you wish, type your reasons for removal in the Other form.
Key in the confirmation captcha.
Click Unlist.
Truecaller claims that it removes these numbers up to 24 hours after receiving an unlist request. This doesn't always mean that your number will stay off the service contractility . We'd removed our mobile number around a year ago but it started appearing again on the service a few days ago even though we've never used Truecaller. Your best bet is to keep checking with Truecaller users whether they see your contact details . If they don't, you're good to go. If not, you can always ask them to unlist your number.
